ChairSide Chats™ – Anxiety

Anxiety In The Dental Chair

“Are you nervous about the upcoming treatment?”  I asked Mary Beth after she got seated.  After seeing how well her daughter had done 6 months earlier, she finally gathered up enough courage to sit in my chair.

“Yes, a little – well maybe more than a little.  Isn’t every body?”

“That’s true, but let me tell you what you and I both can do about it.”

“I am sure you have had lots of requests to “just knock me out and wake me up when you are done?’”

“Yes again, but that’s not necessary.  Would you prefer a more natural method with only positive side effects?”

“Sure.”

“First, put on these blue glasses, and if you want, I can give you 10 drops of homeopathic rescue remedies.  Let’s check in 5 minutes.”

“So what do you feel now on a scale of 1-10 if 10 is what you were feeling before the color glasses and rescue remedies?”

“About a 2 or 3.   This is pretty cool.”
